وتناقش مسرحية “قائمة المبتسرين” أسلوب التربية الخاطئ الذي يتبعه الآباء مع أبنائهم، و”المبتسر” تعني المولود الذي لم يكتمل نموه، أي أن النمو غير المكتمل هنا ينطبق على جميع مراحل حياة هذا المولود، حيث أن سلسلة الأوامر والمحظورات التي يتلقاها منذ صغره حتى شبابه يبقيه على قيد الحياة. وفي هذه الحالة من عدم الاكتمال حتى نهاية الحياة، تكون الشخصية المشوهة غير قادرة على اتخاذ الإجراءات واتخاذ القرار من تلقاء نفسها. وهناك السلطة الوحشية للوالدين الذين يوجهون حياة الابن حسب إرادتهم، وليس حسب إرادته.
تدور فكرة المسرحية حول تطور الإنسان، وأن الإنسان منذ ولادته وحتى مماته لا يستطيع اتخاذ أي قرار. لا يستطيع اختيار اسمه، ولا حتى للحظة واحدة. يتحدث عن دورة حياة الإنسان منذ وجوده مولوداً في بطن أمه إلى أن يخرج إلى الدنيا ويكبر. يتناول العمل مسألة الإرادة ومدى قدرة الإنسان على فعل ما يريد، ولعل هذا الجانب يحمل العديد من الرموز والدلالات والإسقاطات من خلال عرض ذو طابع كوميدي كارتوني ساخر.
