سوناك: رئيس الوزراء اليونانى "يستعرض ويزايد"
ودافع رئيس الوزراء البريطاني ريشي سوناك، الأربعاء، عن موقفه بتجاهل لقاء مع نظيره اليوناني كيرياكوس ميتسوتاكيس خلال زيارته إلى لندن، متهماً إياه بـ”الرياء والمزايدة”.
وتبادلت لندن وأثينا المسؤولية عن سبب تأجيل اللقاء الذي كان مقررا بين سوناك وميتسوتاكيس في داونينغ ستريت في اللحظة الأخيرة، وهو ما دفع الأخير إلى قطع زيارته للعاصمة البريطانية.
وبدا ميتسوتاكيس، الأربعاء، حريصا على وضع حد للنزاع الذي نسبته بريطانيا إلى مقابلته مع هيئة الإذاعة البريطانية (بي بي سي) خلال عطلة نهاية الأسبوع، حيث أدلى بتصريحات بشأن طلب اليونان استعادة رخاميات البارثينون المعروضة في المتحف البريطاني.
وقال ميتسوتاكيس بعد اجتماعه مع الرئيسة اليونانية كاترينا ساكيلاروبولو في أثينا: “هذا الحدث المؤسف لن يؤثر على العلاقات العميقة تاريخيا بين اليونان وبريطانيا”.
لكن سوناك لم يتراجع عن موقفه، على الرغم من اتهام زعيم حزب العمال المعارض كير ستارمر له بممارسة ألعاب “سياسية تافهة” وبأنه “فقد أعصابه”.
وقال سوناك للنواب في مجلس العموم: “يسعدنا دائمًا مناقشة الموضوعات ذات الأهمية مع حلفائنا، مثل الهجرة غير الشرعية أو تعزيز أمننا”.
وأضاف: «عندما كان واضحاً أن هدف الاجتماع ليس مناقشة القضايا الجوهرية للمستقبل، بل استعراض وطرح ومناقشة قضايا الماضي، لم يكن ذلك مناسباً».
وكشف سوناك أن اليونان قدمت “تعهدات وتأكيدات” بعدم إثارة القضية علناً، لكنها لم تف بتعهدها. ونفت اليونان، من جانبها، تقديم أي ضمانات من هذا القبيل.
وتطالب أثينا منذ عقود بإعادة منحوتات البارثينون الموجودة في المتحف البريطاني في لندن، إذ تؤكد أن المنحوتات “نهبت” عندما كانت البلاد تحت الاحتلال العثماني.
وتؤكد سلطات لندن أنه تم الحصول على المنحوتات «بشكل قانوني عام 1802» عن طريق الدبلوماسي البريطاني اللورد إلجين الذي باعها للمتحف البريطاني.
