أعلنت البحرية السنغالية أنها اعترضت زورقين خشبيين يحملان 272 مهاجرا غير شرعي على بعد 100 كيلومتر قبالة سواحل العاصمة داكار.
وقالت في منشور على الإنترنت إن سبعة أطفال و16 امرأة كانوا من بين الركاب الذين أعيدوا إلى قاعدة بحرية في دكار.
شاركت صورة لسفينة صيد مطلية بألوان زاهية في المحيط المفتوح، مكتظة بأشخاص ليس لديهم مأوى من العوامل الجوية.
يتحدى آلاف المهاجرين مئات الأميال من المحيطات التي تفصل أفريقيا عن أوروبا كل عام في بحث يائس عن حياة أفضل.
ولقي ما لا يقل عن 559 شخصا حتفهم أثناء محاولتهم الوصول إلى جزر الكناري في عام 2022، بينما توفي أو فقد 126 شخصا على نفس الطريق في الأشهر الستة الأولى من هذا العام، مع تسجيل 15 حادث تحطم سفينة، وفقا للمنظمة الدولية للهجرة.
وفي أغسطس/آب، نجا 37 شخصاً فقط بعد أن غرق قارب مهاجرين يحمل 101 شخصاً من السنغال في المحيط دون وقود لأسابيع.
