دائما ما يحتفل نجوم الفن بعيد الميلاد المجيد ورأس السنة الجديدة، ويستقبلون العام الجديد بالعديد من الاحتفالات والتجمعات. وكان لكل منهم طقوسه الخاصة وطريقة الاحتفال، وكانت لكل منهم ذكريات مواقف لا تنسى بهذه المناسبة.
وروت هدى سلطان موقفا طريفا حدث لها في الخمسينيات أثناء زواجها من وحش الشاشة فريد شوقي، عندما جاء رأس السنة وكانت تعاني من الأنفلونزا، فقرر زوجها عدم الخروج للاحتفال بهذه المناسبة من أجل ليبقى بجانبها، إلا أنها صممت على خروجه للاحتفال وأخذت على عاتقها ذلك، مؤكدة أنها تريد الخروج معه للاحتفال. أصرت على ذلك وارتدت ملابس صوفية ثقيلة.
وخرجت مع وحش الشاشة، وهي تتجول في شارع الهرم بالسيارة. وفي الطريق، جذبتهم ضجة كبيرة في أحد الملاهي الليلية التي اشتهرت بعدد كبير من روادها من الجالية اليونانية الذين كانوا يحتفلون بليلة رأس السنة. ولم تتوقع هدى سلطان أن يعرفاها، ولم تكد تجلس هي وزوجها الفنان الكبير فريد شوقي حتى ارتفعت الهتافات. واستقبلها أبناء الجالية اليونانية باللغة العربية قائلين: «عاشت خدى سلطان». اجتمعوا حولهم وطلبوا منها الغناء. وفشلت في إقناعهم بأنها مريضة، واضطرت أمام إصرارهم إلى الغناء لهم. وتفاجأت برد فعلهم وحبهم للأغاني العربية. ثم علمها قائد الأوركسترا اليوناني بداية أغنية يونانية مشهورة. ولم تكد تغنيها حتى ضجت القاعة بالتصفيق والهتافات، وأكدت الفنانة الكبيرة أنها لن تنسى هذه الليلة المميزة التي غنت فيها أغنية “أغريجي” وهي يونانية.
