وهل يخفى القمر) هي مقولة مشهورة عند العرب قديما وإلى يومنا هذا مازالت تستخدم لوصف الشخص الجميل فما هي قصتها ومن أول من قالها؟
قائل هذه المقولة هو عمر ابن عبد الله ابن ابي ربيعة هو شاعر مخزومي قرشي كان مشهورا جدا، ولم يكن في قريش من ينافسه في الشعر، في زمانه كان الشاعر وسيما بهي الطلعة شديد الإعجاب بنفسه، وكان قلبه لا يعرف معنى الاستقرار على حب واحدة ويتنقل بين عشية وضحاها من امرأة إلى أخرى، ومن شدة غروره كان يصور نفسه في قصائده معشوقا لا عاشقا، و ان النساء يتنافسن في طلبه بل إنه يتحدث عن شهرته لدى نساء المدينة و كيف يعرفنه من أول نظرة ويقول:
بينما يذكرنَني أبصرنني
دونَ قَيدِ المَيلِ يَعدو بي الأَغَر
قالت الكبرى أتعرفن الفتى؟
قالت الوسطى نَعَم هَذَا عُمَر
قالت الصغرى وَقَد تَيَمتُها:
قَد عَرَفْناهُ وَهَل يَخْفَى الْقَمَر!
و من هنا انتشرت المقولة الشهيرة و هل يخفى القمر.
