صرح “تشيو كو تشنج” وزير الدفاع التايواني بوجود قوات أمريكية خاصة على بعض أراضي الجزر التايوانية النائية، بهدف تدريب قواتها المسلحة، الأمر الذي أغضب الصين بشدة، حيث تعتبر الصين تايوان جزءًا من أراضيها، مما أدى إلي توتر في العلاقات بين بكين وواشنطن.

كما حذر من التحالف العسكري بين الولايات المتحدة وتايوان أنه قد يدفع بالشعب التايواني إلي الكثير من الأزمات، مهددًا تايوان من خطورة الاعتماد على قوى خارجية من أجل استقلالها، إذ يدفع بها ذلك في النهاية إلي التدمير الذاتي.
