دعا معالي السيد عادل بن عبدالرحمن العسومي رئيس البرلمان العربي إلى ضرورة الحفاظ على اللغة العربية كونها تشكل الجزء الأهم والأكبر في الحفاظ على الهوية العربية بشكل عام، محذرًا في الإطار ذاته من تراجع استخدام اللغة العربية، وعدم الاهتمام بتدريسها في بعض المؤسسات التعليمية بالشكل المطلوب.
جاء ذلك في بيان أصدره بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للغة العربية الذي يوافق 18 ديسمبر من كل عام.
وقال العسومي إنه يجب العمل على تنمية حب اللغة العربية بداخل الأجيال القادمة غير المدركة لأهميتها لأنه كلما اهتمّ الإنسان بلغته فهذا خير دليل على قوته وأصالته، محذرا من خطورة التفريط بها فهي لغة أعظم رسالة سماوية وهو القرآن الكريم، كما أنها تمثل الوعاء الذي نقل الثقافة العربية وإن حمايتها باتت ضرورة ملحة حتى لا تصبح هوية العالم العربي وثقافته نقطة الضعف في استراتيجياته الأمنية، كونها تمثل قضية أمن قومي عربي في المقام الأول .
وأشار العسومي إلى أنه إذا كان تعلم اللغات الأجنبية أصبح الآن ضرورة مُلحة لكي نستطيع مسايرة العصر، فإن الحفاظ على اللغة العربية هو الأساس الذي يرتكز عليه نهضة الأمة العربية كما أنها من أعرق وأقدم لغات العالم.
