قبل شروق شمس صباح اليوم الثلاثاء 10 أكتوبر 2023، سيشاهد الهلال المتضاءل وكوكب الزهرة يزينان الأفق الشرقي، إذ سينخفض بينهما بمقدار 6 درجات في ظاهرة مرئية بالعين المجردة في سماء القاهرة العالم العربي.
كشفت الجمعية الفلكية بجدة في تقرير لها أن القمر والزهرة سيظهران معًا قبل شروق الشمس بساعات قليلة في منظر جميل. وهم في المركزين الثاني والثالث، ألمع الأجرام السماوية، على التوالي، بعد الشمس. يمكن رؤية وهج خافت يضيء الجزء غير المضاء من قرص القمر – وهو نتيجة بسبب انعكاس ضوء الشمس عن الأرض، فعند مراقبة كوكب الزهرة من خلال التلسكوب، يضيء قرصه بنسبة 42% من ضوء الشمس في الوقت الحالي والمسافة الظاهرية بين القمر والزهرة كبيرة جدًا لدرجة أنه لا يمكن رؤيتهما معًا في مجال رؤية التلسكوب أو المنظار.
غالبًا ما يُعرف كوكب الزهرة باسم نجمة المساء عند رؤيته في سعة المساء، بينما يُعرف باسم نجمة الصباح في سعة الصباح. اعتقد القدماء منذ زمن طويل أن نجم الصباح ونجم المساء هما جسمان مختلفان، فأطلقوا عليهما (الفوسفور) و(هسبيروس)، لكن فيثاغورس أدرك قبل 500 عام من الميلاد أن الاثنين واحدان، ومن المرجح أن كوكب الزهرة هو الكوكب الأول. ويعرف بهذا الشكل بسبب سطوعه وحركته السريعة نسبياً.
