أدان فضيلة أ.د نظير محمد عياد، مفتي الجمهورية، رئيس الأمانة العامة لدُور وهيئات الإفتاء في العالم، الجريمة البشعة التي ارتكبتها قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، باستهداف كنيسة دير اللاتين في قطاع غزة، مشيرًا إلى أن هذا الفعل المشين يُمثّل اعتداءً صارخًا على دور العبادة، وتجسيدًا واضحًا لحالة السقوط الأخلاقي التي بلغها الاحتلال، واستهانةً بالمواثيق الدولية التي تُحرِّم المساس بالمقدسات الدينية تحت أي ظرف من الظروف، مؤكدًا أن استهداف دور العبادة من مساجد و كنائس، لهي جريمة حرب مكتملة الأركان، تمسُّ حرمة العقيدة، وتعبِّر عن عجز الاحتلال عن التمييز بين ساحات القتال والأماكن المقدسة، في خرقٍ فاضحٍ ومتكرر لكل قواعد القانون الدولي الإنساني.
وشدد مفتي الجمهورية على أن استمرار الاحتلال في استباحة المقدسات يُنذر بعواقب وخيمة على الأمن والاستقرار، ويكشف عن إصرارٍ ممنهجٍ على إذلال الشعب الفلسطيني، والنيل من رموزه الدينية، دون أدنى اعتبار لقدسية الأديان أو حرمة الإنسان، داعيًا المجتمع الدولي والمنظمات الأممية والدينية إلى تحرك فوري وفعّال لوقف هذا التصعيد الخطير، ومحاسبة من يقفون وراءه، وضمان حماية دور العبادة من الانتهاك والتدنيس، انطلاقًا من المبادئ التي تأسست عليها الإنسانية، لا سيّما في أوقات الحروب والنزاعات.
