اتخذت وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية قرارًا بالموافقة على صفقة عسكرية محتملة لحكومة إسبانيا لوحدات باتريوت Genesis-3+ الحديثة والمعدات ذات الصلة بتكلفة تقدر بـ 2.8 مليار دولار.
ونقلت قناة الحرة الأمريكية، الخميس، عن بيان نشر على الموقع الإلكتروني لوكالة التعاون الأمني الدفاعي التابعة لوزارة الدفاع الأمريكية، قوله: إن وكالة التعاون الأمني الدفاعي سلمت الشهادة المطلوبة لإخطار الكونجرس الأمريكي بهذه الإمكانية أُوكَازيُون.
وأشار البيان إلى أن الصفقة تشمل أيضًا معدات الاتصالات والأدوات ومعدات الاختبار، والخدمات المساندة التي تشمل مجموعات التزلج ومعدات القياس عن بعد والمولدات والمنشورات والوثائق الفنية ومعدات التدريب وقطع الغيار والإصلاح، كما تتضمن توفير خدمة شخصية مدرب للتدريب على المعدات الجديدة ودعم الفريق. المساعدة الفنية الميدانية ودعم اختبار الطيران والهدف وخدمات المساعدة الفنية والدعم الهندسي واللوجستي.

وتابع البيان أن بيع نظام صواريخ باتريوت سيحسن القدرة الدفاعية الصاروخية لإسبانيا، ويعمل على زيادة القدرات الدفاعية لجيشها، ويدعم هدفها المتمثل في تحسين الدفاع الوطني والإقليمي وقابلية التشغيل البيني مع القوات الأمريكية وقوات حلف شمال الأطلسي.
وأكد البيان أن بيع هذه المعدات لن يغير التوازن العسكري الأساسي في المنطقة، ولن يكون له تأثير سلبي على الجاهزية الدفاعية الأمريكية نتيجة الصفقة العسكرية المقدمة لإسبانيا.
