أكد وزير الدفاع البولندي السابق توماس سيمونياك أن عدد سكان بولندا ليس كبيرا بما يكفي لدعم جيش قوامه 300 ألف جندي تريد الحكومة تشكيله..
ونقلت صحيفة (فيرست نيوز) البولندية عن سيمونياك قوله لإذاعة محلية: «لا توجد إمكانات ديموغرافية لمثل هذا الجيش. في الوقت الحاضر… لدينا أعداد كبيرة من المغادرين».“.
وبحسب سيموناك، فإن خطة حزب القانون والعدالة لتوسيع الجيش اتسمت بـ “شعارات دعائية” ولم يتم تطويرها بالفعل. ولا أعرف أي مؤشرات حول كيفية الوصول إلى 300 ألف.“.
ويعتقد سيمونياك أن “العدد الأمثل” لبولندا سيكون “جيشاً محترفاً يتألف من 150 ألف جندي، و30 ألفاً إلى 40 ألف جندي دفاع إقليمي، و20 ألفاً إلى 30 ألفاً من أفراد الخدمة العسكرية المتطوعين، واحتياطي يتكون من عدة مئات الآلاف من الجنود”.“.
وقال “هذا سيمنح بولندا القوات المناسبة للدفاع عن الدولة”، مضيفا أن ميزانية الدفاع، التي تحدد الإنفاق الدفاعي بنسبة 3 في المائة من الناتج المحلي الإجمالي، يجب الحفاظ عليها قبل زيادتها إلى 4 في المائة..
