أعلن البنتاغون أن تدريب الطيارين الأوكرانيين على قيادة مقاتلات إف-16 الأمريكية سيستغرق ما بين 5 إلى 9 أشهر.
وقال المتحدث باسم البنتاغون باتريك رايدر خلال مؤتمر صحفي يوم الثلاثاء: “بحسب تقديراتنا فإن موعد الانتهاء من تدريب الطيارين سيعتمد على القدرات الشخصية للطيارين أنفسهم. ولكن يمكننا أن نفترض أنهم سيحتاجون إلى ما بين 5 إلى 9 أشهر لاستكمال التدريب.
وأشار إلى أن تدريب الطيارين الأوكرانيين مستمر حاليا في الولايات المتحدة وكذلك في قاعدة غرافينفور في ألمانيا.
وشدد على أن واشنطن تركز اهتمامها ليس فقط على احتياجات أوكرانيا العسكرية على المدى القصير، ولكن أيضًا على التعاون الدفاعي مع كييف على المدى الطويل.
وفي حديثه عن المساعدات التي طلب البيت الأبيض من الكونجرس تمويلها، أكد رايدر أنها تشمل أيضًا تدريبًا طويل الأمد للطيارين الأوكرانيين.
