ما لاشك فيه أن علم الأخلاق هو سبيل النهضة والرقي والتقدم والإصلاح في كل أمة وفي كل جيل؛ لأن إصلاح الإنسان مرهون بحسن خلقه، وصلاح الأمم مرهون بصلاح الإنسان، فإذا صلح الإنسان صلح كل شيء، وإذا فسد الإنسان أفسد كل شيء، وما أروع قول شوقي أمير الشعراء حين قال:
إنما الأمم الأخلاق ما بقيت
فإن همُ ذهبت أخلاقهم ذهبوا
وهذا ليس من فراغ، خاصة وأن الإنسان هو أصل الحضارات وبانيها ولا تقوم الحضارة بغير الإنسان، و أن كل عمل يهذب سلوك الإنسان ويقوم نفسه ويصلح روحه وجسمه يصب في النهاية في خدمة المجتمع الذي يعيش فيه، وفي خدمة الأمة والإنسانية كلها؛ لذا قال صاحب الإحياء: «إن ذرة من تقوى وخلق واحد من أخلاق الأكياس أفضل من أمثال الجبال عملًا بالجوارح».
إن للأخلاق الحميدة بهجة وسرورًا على الأمم والمجتمعات، وحين يلقي العبد ربه، وقد روي عن أبي الدرداء أن رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قال: «ما من شيء أثقل في الميزان من خلق حسن»، فحسن الخلق هو التعريف الجامع للبر كما قال الرسول -صلى الله عليه وسلم: «البر حسن الخلق» وهو الهادي إلى الجنة، كما قال الرسول الكريم: «إن الصدق يهدي إلى البر وإن البر يهدي إلى الجنة»، وأيضًا قال الرسول الكريم: «إن أقربكم مني مجالس يوم القيامة أحاسنكم أخلاقًا»، وقال صلى الله عليه وسلم: «إنما بعثت لأتمم مكارم الأخلاق»؛ ولذا مدح المولى -عز وجل- رسوله الكريم قائلًا: ﴿وإنك لعلى خلق عظيم﴾.
