كشفت تقارير صحفية بريطانية أن البيانات الجديدة الصادرة من مكتب الإحصاء الوطني البريطاني تفيد بأن اسم محمد أصبح لأول مرة الاسم الأكثر شعبية بين الأطفال الذكور في إنجلترا وويلز لعام 2023 .
اسم محمد أصبح من بين أفضل 10 أسماء للأولاد منذ عام 2016 حيث إنه دخل لأول مرة إلى قائمة أفضل 100 اسم في منتصف الثمانينيات وشهد أسرع نمو بين الإصدارات الثلاثة منذ ذلك الحين لكنه الآن تفوق على الاسم السابق “نوح”
صحيفة “ديلي ميل” البريطانية أبرزت في تقريرها :
أنه من المرجح أن يكون السبب هو تزايد أعداد الجاليات المسلمة في مختلف أنحاء المملكة المتحدة بسبب الهجرة فضلاً عن شعبية الشخصيات الرياضية مثل محمد صلاح ومحمد نوح ومحمد علي كان سبباً رئيسيا في هذه الزيادة
وأوضح “جريج سيلي” الموظف من مكتب الإحصاء الوطني لصحيفة “ذا جارديان” البريطانية إن الثقافة الشعبية تؤثر على اختيار الأسماء مشيرًأ إلى أن اسم “محمد” كان الأكثر شعبية في أربعة من أصل تسعة مناطق في إنجلترا وحصل على المرتبة 63 للأسماء الأكثر شعبية في ويلز
وظهرت في السنين العشرين الأخيرة ثلاثة طرق لتهجئة الاسم باللغة الإنجليزية وذلك في قائمة أفضل 100 اسم لأطفال الذكور في إنجلترا وويلز في السنوات السابقة ولكن هذه هي السنة الأولى التي تتمكن فيها تهجئة واحدة فقط من تصدر القائمة وهي (Muhammad).
وهذا يؤكد أن الرياضيين المسلمين أصحاب الخلق القويم هم بالفعل قوي ناعمة لنشر الثقافة الإسلامية بالعالم الغربي.
