تحتفل مصر أمس ١٨ مارس، بيوم الطبيب المصري، وهو يوم يحتفل به سنويًا اعترافًا بفضل الأطباء المصريين وتكريمًا للمتميزين منهم في كافة التخصصات، ويختلف تاريخ اليوم من دولة إلى أخرى، ويرتبط في كل دولة بحدث محوري في تاريخ الطب في ذلك البلد
وأسند محمد على باشا الكبير إلى الطبيب الفرنسي “أنطوان كلوت بك”، مهام إنشاء المستشفى العسكري الكبير ومدرسة الطب في أبو زعبل عام 1826، ولم يكن في مصر طبيب مؤهل حينها، بل كان الطب السائد هو الطب الشعبي، وكان يزاولها الحلاقون والحجامون ويجرون عمليات جراحية، وانتقل المستشفى إلى قصر أحمد العيني في عام1837، وبعد 18 عاماً تخرج من مدرسة الطب 1500 طبيب.
وانضمت مدرسة الطب الي الجامعة المصرية في 1925، وفي 1928 وافق البرلمان على إنشاء مستشفى فؤاد الأول ”المنيل الجامعي”، وسُميت المدرسة كلية طب قصر العيني، وفي عام 1929 تم انتخاب علي بك إبراهيم كأول عميد مصري للكلية.
وفي 18 مارس 1979 تم الاحتفال بأول عيد للطبيب المصري، تحت شعار “سنبنى قصر العيني”، وتم إنشاؤه بعد ذلك في مقره المعروف حاليًا.
